Cubic Yards and Cubic Feet Calculator
Find the volume of a box or cylinder, or convert a volume between cubic yards, cubic feet, cubic inches and cubic meters.
How it works
Box = length × width × depth. Cylinder = π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × depth. 1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet (3 × 3 × 3). 1 cubic foot = 1,728 cubic inches. 1 cubic foot = 0.3048³ = 0.028316846592 m³ exactly (NIST), so 1 m³ ≈ 35.3147 cu ft and 1 cu yd ≈ 0.7646 m³.
Worked example: A space 3 × 3 × 3 ft is 27 cu ft = 1 cubic yard = 0.7646 m³. A round hole 2 ft across and 3 ft deep is π × 1² × 3 = 9.42 cu ft (0.35 cu yd).

Frequently asked questions
How many cubic feet are in a cubic yard?
27, because a cubic yard is 3 ft × 3 ft × 3 ft.
How many cubic feet are in a cubic meter?
About 35.31. Oregon State University Extension lists 1 cubic meter as 35.314 cubic feet; from NIST's exact foot (0.3048 m) it is 35.3147.
How do I convert cubic feet to cubic yards?
Divide by 27. For example, 54 cubic feet is 2 cubic yards.
